Having grown up nowhere in particular (although Baton Rouge, LA and the San Francisco Bay Area were the two mainstays of his childhood with lots of places in between), the most consistent things in Winston’s youth were poor school attendance and fishing poles.
Winston first picked up a fly rod while in the Navy, stationed in Jacksonville, Florida. There he fished the brackish waters of the St. John’s River. After the Navy, he spent a few years in Lafayette, Louisiana working offshore as a commercial diver where his quest for big saltwater fish continued. Only knowing saltwater fly fishing, Winston felt a bit out of place in Austin until he met a small group of guys that fish the Hill Country rivers in a manner that was familiar to him…Targeting big fish with big rods. He had been reignited after his first experience on the Lower Colorado; he clawed his way into a group a guys to learn as much as possible from them and made some good friends.
Winston has been chasing fish for 30 years and loves to be on the water. He might be the newest to professional guiding in the group; he has spent a lot of time as the “client” though. He knows that professionalism as a guide and customer service are keys to providing the client with more than just a great day of fishing, he strives to offer a great experience. Winston is Pro-Staff with and Rajeff sports, he proudly abuses ECHO rods, and SIMMS Clothing and Gear.
Over the years, Winston has had some interesting professions. Currently, he is a husband, father and a paramedic working in a county-based EMS system.
